How this was worked out
Pick a material to see its weight. A ton is 2,000 lb. Wet material weighs more, so ask your supplier for their number.

About dump truck loads
A truck load is one trip of the truck. How much one trip carries is set two ways: the weight the truck is allowed to haul, in tons, and the room in its bed, in cubic yards. Whichever runs out first is a full load. Ask your hauler which number they go by.
Stone, sand and fill dirt are heavy, so the truck reaches its weight limit before the bed is full. Mulch and topsoil are lighter for their size, so they fill the bed by room before they reach the weight limit. For those, put the truck size in cubic yards.
Haulers count whole trucks. A part load still takes a trip, so the answer here is rounded up to the next whole truck load.
